  1. hughezee's post in Accord Coupe 2.0 Upper Control Arm Ball Joint was marked as the answer
Hi there, the upper arms are identical between 2.0, 3.0 coupe and the upper ball joint comes back as Febi Bilstein 26276, which is 12.9 mm cone for both USA & UK models. Please note: aftermarket suppliers have a habit of glossing over things so I can't guarantee its compatibility for either model. I would normally replace the complete arm as the original ball joint wasn't intended to come out really and Honda only sold the arm complete...
Anyway I have found a pair on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1110927742  just hope there genuine Febi Bilstein parts, the bay is full of fakes 🙄
    Hope that helps 👍
  2. hughezee's post in Difference in between CG2 and CG4 Chassis was marked as the answer
First off welcome to the club and secondly, the 3.0 V6 window regulator is interchangeable, so grab it. Thirdly apart from the obvious differences in the engine compartment, the fuel system i.e sender (fuel tank the same) and instrument cluster, rear calipers, rear subframe, exhaust, lambda sensors are not interchangeable, everything else will interchange but the car won't feel right on CG2 OEM front coil springs or vice versa.
Think that's it, may have forgotten something  🙃

  5. hughezee's post in Honda Accord Coupe Oil Consumption was marked as the answer
I have seen a couple of the accord coupe v6's consume oil, depends if the PCV system is functioning correctly or how much you like VTEC 😁 but the vast majority including my coupe don't use any oil at all between oil changes. Also, past owners that have neglected the car and wear has occurred could be another possibility, personally I would switch to a 10W40 semi-synthetic like Castrol GTX to see if the consumption subsides...

  7. hughezee's post in Honda Elysion RR3 V6 Service Items "NEW OWNER" was marked as the answer
Welcome to the club and congrats great purchase, cracking motors. 👍
Secondly, I would just take everything you've purchased for your motor back to the Honda dealer, they do not support the Elysion unless you need a oil filter and sump washer but they will sell you anything regardless.
Dave is spot on and in my experience, the 0W20 is only good for motors that have used it from day one, an older vehicle will spring oil leaks and get noisy and undoubtedly become a little sluggish as a result.
ATF-DW1 was good once but only for a short time 😒 then the formula was and changed to suit other vehicles in the Honda UK range and it is definitely not backwards compatible as Honda would lead you to believe. they even released a service bulletin on problems with ATF-DW1 in older vehicles with 4- speed (especially) or 5-speed transmissions with no real solution apart from using an ATF-Z1 compatible fluid or refund the customer. 🤬
  8. hughezee's post in Honda Accord V6 Timing Belt Change, Replacement was marked as the answer
Ideally, the timing belt should be replaced every 7 years or 60,000 miles and the water pump would be a consideration but that depends on the mileage and how often the coolant has been replaced. I normally charge around £350-400 timing belt & water pump using genuine parts as I get the water pumps from Honda USA which are around £100 cheaper than Honda UK prices although as an alternative I would happily use ADL BluePrint & SKF Belts or Kits.
  9. hughezee's post in Honda Accord V6 Thermostat? "WHICH ONE" was marked as the answer
Hi and welcome to the club I hope you're enjoying the motor and if its a car you wish to keep for a while I would suggest replacing the coolant in its entirety plus a thermostat and I would go for the OEM spec' 78c. Plus if you're feeling flush maybe a timing belt & water pump too, especially if you don't know the history of the car and I cannot stress enough maintain the transmission and try to avoid the current Honda fluids too.
Also, the temperature gauge doesn't get to the halfway point like some older models and its a question that been raise a few times now so I wouldn't be concerned there's something wrong.
I fitted a few thermostats now and ADL blueprint is a superior part on newer OEM stuff, thanks for the input Geoff 👍 Personally I like the Gates TH27078G1 thermostat, I have fitted a few on the V6's now and on my own as a precautionary measure.
  10. hughezee's post in Rear shock mount plates was marked as the answer
There are many changes over the production years not saying a later CG4 doesn't have them as I have a set of early CG2 top mounts without rubber dampers also, some CG4's & CG2's have double caliper pistons some have single piston for example?
Either way, they should work fine and are completely interchangeable, otherwise, Honda wouldn't have supplied them?
  11. hughezee's post in 1998-2002 Accord Coupe Power Steering Cooler Leak? was marked as the answer
Could well be PAS fluid, either way, I hope it's a simple fix.
  12. hughezee's post in 1998-2002 Accord Coupe Plastic Sill Cover Removal was marked as the answer
The early 98-99's seem to suffer but a low mileage coastal car isn't immune either, your car was first registered in Cymru, Bangor so should be ok. Anyway, the topic linked should help, if you ignore the wing bolts in the pictures, just a couple of screws and a few clips and give a tap from the rear to the front..

  13. hughezee's post in 98-02 Accord Coupe Spoiler kit? was marked as the answer
The spoiler was indeed an optional extra but no additional extras came with it, I have a selection of brochures for the coupe I will have to upload them
  14. hughezee's post in Replacement Rear bushes was marked as the answer
Hello Mark, welcome to the club Yes the parts for these great American built coupes can be hard to find in the UK

I am assuming your talking about the lower trailing arm item 15-16 which usually wears out first? If not please pick out the arms your after and I should be able to point you in the right direction. Additionally I have some complete brand new after market arms in storage and a parts car that has had several new genuine bushings fitted in 2011 so I wouldn't worry to much m8y
  15. hughezee's post in Newbie looking to buy my first accord v6 was marked as the answer
Welcome to the club and chuffed your considering a V6 Accord coupe anyway a low mileage one is a good start but don't be put off a higher mileage one with a good history. Also your right to point out the transmission niggles but it only effected 2% of all them ever made but age and lax maintenance will see them fail like any other automatic so preventative maintenance is key.
As you have read some topics already maintenance is pretty cheap an simple, I would recommend two oil changes a year depending on your annual mileage, air filter an spark plugs every 30k ish fuel filter every 50k. I'm sure you would like to give a good initial service including a freshen up of the gearbox oil once you buy one and thereafter your looking at £100 year if your using a good local garage supplying the parts yourself and this is providing to don't face age related surprises or future MOT woes, which are rare if I'm honest.
    Hope this helps
  16. hughezee's post in Looking to buy a Accord Coupe was marked as the answer
Welcome again Richard If you have a browse you will find most common complaints relate to age like most cars, but being Honda they are still rare.
Anyway if you have a 2.0 coupe on your wish list, (great choice by the way) I would say having full service history goes without saying, but I wouldn’t shy away from a higher mileage one which would likely have had a few major jobs done already.
Few things to look for or consider
The timing belt is due approx’ every 70,000 miles or 7 years whichever comes first really and the water pump tensioners are due around 100,000 miles.
Sometimes the back-lights on the interior gauges can fail due to incorrect installation of an after market radio and can be an expensive fix £200+
Air conditioning system dependant on the year the compressors are known to fail due to leaks, so look for lubrication oil leaks around the dryer even if the system works well (ice cold)
After a test drive check the n.s rear calliper for excessive heat (binding) as one is a common failure, although re-manufactured units are available though.
Rear wheel bearings if one of the rears very noisy around corners (rubbing sound) it can be an expensive to replace as well?
Dark coloured cars can suffer with lacquer peeling even cracks in the seam sealant on the boot gutters causing water ingress in the boot, light coloured cars don’t seem to suffer these issues.
As suggested these are just a few things to consider before parting with your money and if you’re thinking of an automatic or manual version the transmission fluid should be replaced every 24,000 although the manual is not a critical if it’s a low miler. Nevertheless I’m sure I’ve forgotten one or two things which other members will point out, but just use your eyes & ears...

    Hope this helps m8y

  17. hughezee's post in 1998 1999 2000 2001 Accord Coupe 2.0 3.0 No Dash Lights? was marked as the answer
Hmmm sounds like your multiplexer unit has failed and seems to be a more common complaint when an aftermarket radio is fitted  However Honda did issue a recall (2004) for a free replacement unit as they can just fail...
  18. hughezee's post in Which Engine Oil 1990 -1995 KA7/ KA8 Honda Legend 3.2 V6 was marked as the answer
As a follow up to past discussions regarding engine oil and the problems with Honda 0W20 p/n: 08232P99K4LHE when used in older engines, which results in oil leaks, high oil consumption and excessive valve train wear and engine noise.
So I have illustrated a few of the most common oils used by myself or recommended by other members, so if you are looking for just a standard oil I would recommend Mobil Super 2000 10W40 or Castrol GTX 10W40 (not Magnatec or Edge). Owners looking for good fuel economy and good performance I would highly recommend Shell Helix HX7 10W-40 Engine Oil.👍
