timberwolf
I will be picking up my coupe tomorrow so does anyone know which insurance company like our V6's as they seem to vary so much. Thanks in advance
Administrators hughezee Posted May 16, 2016 Administrators Report Share Posted May 16, 2016 Congrats again on the purchase and on my travels and comparisons the V6's seem to be favoured by Aviva insurance, don't know why although I am going with Adrian Flux this year
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted May 16, 2016 Moderators Report Share Posted May 16, 2016 Adrian Flux tend to be very good for "newer classics" and/or "up-and-coming classics" into which categories the Accord V6 coupé falls nicely into. Lancaster can be very good at times as well, other times absolutely ridiculous with a capital "F"! Basically it pays to shop around and even running the details through something like confused.com could yield a good premium. The big trouble is, your postcode, age, driving history and so on can have a big bearing on how much you'll pay. Sometimes adding a named driver over 50 (even if they never drive it) can reduce the premium considerably, as i found out by accident.
Moderators PTR200S Posted February 8, 2017 Moderators Report Share Posted February 8, 2017 Having difficulty insuring the Coupe ! , at a sensible price that is! Some companies just refuse to quote for the car, never had that before, its as if they don't know what it is! If I can insure an XK8 coupe for £200 then why is the best price for the Coupe at £295, and most of those that do quote can be over £300. Anyone got a company, specialist probably, that seems to be "reasonable" ? I know everyone different for insurance quotes but just a lead on a good company would be useful, please. Founding Member AhsyV6 Posted February 8, 2017 Founding Member Report Share Posted February 8, 2017 I was with Kwik Fit last year for £600ish (Zone 2 London) and that was a good price however last month got a renewal for £1,535!!!! I actually laughed at it and couldn't even be bothered to call them. Did the usual and did a comparison site rumidge and EcoCoOp came up at £428.....NCB fully protected, legal protection and £150 compulsory excess with no voluntary.....I snapped it up straight away! Thats my recommendation....will be interesting to see how much it will be in your neck of the woods.
Moderators PTR200S Posted February 9, 2017 Moderators Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 Well, an online quote with eco coop produced an "unable to quote online" This is third company to do this, there must be something causing this, anyhoo phone calls later today in order. Administrators hughezee Posted February 9, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 They just make it up as they go along as I was going with a specialist originally, but by the time it came round to renewing it had gone up 40% so went back to trade cover

Quote from Adrian Flux, SPECIALIST CAR INSURER (!!!! I have my TR7 V8 with them) third party fire and theft only (!!!!!!) £450 , WHAT ! you're avin a larf, I said.... but apparently not, and this was after twenty minutes on the phone, enquiring after the size of my biggest specialist high powered sports car to establish if I could handle the POWER of a 200bhp V6 slush box !!! A 0-60 of 8.5 seconds makes it one of the slowest vehicles in the current fleet and the motorcycles I ride can blitz that too! I just don't get it. Looks like I may well be selling the Coupe on., Edit ok maybe not, see below for a RESULT !
Administrators hughezee Posted February 9, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 We are the exclusive Accord to be fair but seriously why not give Aviva insurance a poke they seemed to be pretty consistent coupe wise, I wanted guaranteed to pay out £3500 and the trade cover addon for that was cheaper and I can insure up to 200 cars for no extra, so a no-brainer at the time.
Moderators PTR200S Posted February 9, 2017 Moderators Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 Quote me Happy.... Well they didn't, another refusal to insure that particular car. Happy to take my money for the Honda Tourer 2.4 Vtec at 190 bhp
Administrators hughezee Posted February 9, 2017 Administrators Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 That's a shame, but strange as they covered a friends coupe for £275.00 fully compo back in November, are they asking silly questions to catch you out relating to interior equipment or body trim, none standard add-ons none factory wheels, imported? Because your car is completely standard as they come, no offence and it's not classed as imported and sometimes you have to help the advisers find the correct car...
Moderators PTR200S Posted February 9, 2017 Moderators Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 RESULT !!!! Rang the "old farts" insurance company ! £193 and a few pence, can't remember how many, ecstatic so didn't even clock that! Signed up right away and if it hadn't been for the barstewards at the DVLA charging by the month for road tax (instead of every day like EVERYONE else) I would have taxed it too. So first 1st of March, roll on, Happy Again Polishing to continue tomorrow afternoon ! Maintenance day Saturday!

No, no awkward questions all straight forward, they just didn't "like" the car ???? No offence taken ! its COMPLETELY standard, that's why I bought it, not imported, unless they class Ohio as the problem some of them seemed to think it might be left hand drive? Founding Member PaulS Posted February 17, 2017 Founding Member Report Share Posted February 17, 2017 Funny, I was with Saga at a reasonable price & their renewal for me last July (no accidents/ claims in the meantime) was £495 so I swapped to Coop Eco for £235.... Even when I told Saga, they said they didn't price match ...

Like all insurance companies they play a game of "attract as many customers in but then they don't care after that", no loyalty to their customers at all. I just chop and change now, I don't care anymore because they don't either.

Founding Member Mazda Man Posted February 25, 2017 Founding Member Report Share Posted February 25, 2017 I don't stay loyal to any insurer. When renewal time comes around I'm all over the price comparison websites like a rash. My top tip is to put your wife on the policy, even if she doesn't drive it. Somehow the premium goes down? Weird.

Weird. Agreed, yes, have used the wife too (err, if you see what I mean) in the past but just recently it seems to make little or no difference... perhaps its to do with the type of car. Insured herindoors on the coupe, as it DID make a difference (about £20, should I mention that? what she is worth?) BUT she will NOT drive it...."its an auto, don't do auto " 1
Administrators hughezee Posted April 26, 2018 Administrators Report Share Posted April 26, 2018 Well, its that time again and Aviva can shove it and I'm thinking life is too short ? so think I should make it up with direct line after all these years which is over £450 saving combining the Accord coupe and Odyssey.? 2
Moderators PTR200S Posted April 26, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted April 26, 2018 Funny thing is the swmbo Jazz upped by nearly 25% this year with Aviva..... they got told to shove it where the sun don't shine on the Coupe front it DROPPED about a quid over last year with the old farts club................? 1
Founding Member Mazda Man Posted April 30, 2018 Founding Member Report Share Posted April 30, 2018 Tesco wanted almost £1k for the Legend. ? So I went on the usual searches and came back with £450...you guessed it, with Tesco! So I called them and they matched the price.
