  1. been driving automatics for nearly 40 years and always find if you warm em up for a minuit or so they perform better than starting off straight away. as for jobs today knackered my battery with leaving a door slightly open for a couple of weeks flanening it completely.

    HI

nice to see another northern car about. i,m up in keighley west yorkshire so hope to see you about. good not all old or unusual cars don,t live south of the oxford cambridge line.
  3. don,t get too worried about the auto box. it may be a bit of a problem in a car that has very few but if you keep really on top of it e.g. changing fluid and filters before really necessary you should be o.k. if it was when you purchased it. remember other auto cars have problems also. only real problem i had was a mercedes estate. i,ll never own one again as they are a real money pit and i,m not on my own here. had a peugeot 505 v6 auto for years and these too were supposed to be troublesome. did what i did above and it was as good as the day i got it.. remember use the oil specified and not go for cost. the only problem i have with the v6 coupe in the insurance i pay. managed to get it down to about 750 and thats 2000 mile limit and garaged at home which is more than a previous v6 merc coupe, porsche 944 and the pergeot. get an insurance quote before you buy as with the price being asked for them the insurance could be your biggest obsticle.
  4. thanks bill. will give them a try. i,ll go for the dearest as you usually get what you pay for in the motor trade
  5. reflectors are fine. had the headlight aim checked which was fine. what new bulbs can be fitted without major electrical updateing. thanks for info from everyone as well. i,ll try anything as i do a lot of night driving e.g. coming back from football matches.
  6. owner of a 1998 v6 coupe that i really love but the problem i have with it is that the headlights on dipped beam are really useless and at times i have to check that they are on. is there any upgrade that i can get. the lights are in good order its just the light given out is poor and anything over 40 mph is dangerous. any help would be appreciated but i,m not an auto electrician.
  7. looks a stunner mate. same colour as mine. being left hand drive do you still get scuffing on the drivers seat bolster as most of us do.

    Hello

welcolm mo. i have not been an owner for long but with the prices as they are now it would be time to take the plunge. far better car than a merc. ce or sec coupe. i know i,ve had both not the snob appeal but i,m sure the prices are going to rise. to me one of motorings best kept secrets.
  9. Buy a late 90,s automatic petrol merc. what with petrol, repairs both body and mechanically you,ve got away cheep. No wonder they are cheep to buy and you think there,s a problem with v6 boxes you,ve never lived.
  10. nice to see another coupe in yorkshire. i live in keighley and got a blue one fairly recently. back to your gearbox problems i,ve had loads of auto,s over the years and it all depends on how much money or time you,ve got to throw at it. once a problem has started with auto boxes i,ve found the only real thing to do if you want to keep the car is a change of box. d i y or an auto gearbox specialist. if you go down the latter road shop around as i know there,s a few in the leeds area. there,s good the bad and the rip offs. there is a box on ebay in ripon that requires work but its up to your back pocket and how long you want to keep the car. best of luck anyway and hope to see you around.
  11. to get the bolster done properly it will cost a fortune at a competent upholsterer. I had a Citroen visa gti with the same problem nearly 20 years ago and it cost me over 100 pounds then and that was cloth. its not just a tear it also can be a problem with having to have the seat underneath the tear to be rebuilt. Also ill try and post photos on here but I,m not very good at it but will have a go.
  12. Dark blue V6 automatic Honda accord coupe with dark grey interior and the only fault I could find is drivers seat bolster has a small hole but after owning a few older mercs I,m used to it. looking forward to the drive back tonight.
  13. I will be picking up my coupe tomorrow so does anyone know which insurance company like our V6's as they seem to vary so much. Thanks in advance
  14. I got one and will be picking up tomorrow, highly delighted as it's got proof of gearbox work and use of correct fluids. needs an oil change though any do's and don'ts in regards what oils to use. mileage is just under 100,000 as I didn't want a low mileage example as all the bad cars I have bought have been low mileage old lady owners who went to bingo and supermarket once a week types. avoid like the plague. Thanks to everyone who has replied to me and thanks for all info.
