Founding Member Cryistic Posted October 3, 2015 Founding Member Report Share Posted October 3, 2015 Not a lot to report actually, old battery was way undersize for the job it needed to do and was a cheap aftermarket job New battery came from Coxs Honda for £60 plus a fiver delivery and was here in 2 days, great service from then once again. Stu normally is the 1st port of call for fluids but coxs prices are good for other things he may not have in stock. I couldnt get a comparable aftermarket batter from anywhere else for the same money. Honda battery was 110 amps and 10 amp hours higher than the old battery, it's a tight fit as well but the difference is palpable, it starts up instantly.

Founding Member Cryistic Posted October 5, 2015 Author Founding Member Report Share Posted October 5, 2015 The gear change is bloody awful after the battery replacement, is this because the gearbox has to learn it's shift points again, the battery was off for maybe 40 min in total. Administrators hughezee Posted October 5, 2015 Administrators Report Share Posted October 5, 2015 Basically yes, it needs time to learn and it could take half a mile or 500 miles, but resetting the transmission controller via a scanner tool would work within 1 mile or less usually. however it must be compensating allot for wear or a low pressure condition
Founding Member Cryistic Posted October 5, 2015 Author Founding Member Report Share Posted October 5, 2015 Wear seems to be the issue, lots of slippage on any kind of incline in second and it's short shifting from 2nd to 3rd, this news is nothing new though, still she keeps going. Could be low pressure as well I suppose considering the state of the ATF, I'd come and see you Stu but I'm worried a long run will fry the transmission due to heat build up. Administrators hughezee Posted October 18, 2015 Administrators Report Share Posted October 18, 2015 Yeah not bad at all, just hope it was the right rating and not the root cause of your starting niggles? Administrators hughezee Posted January 18, 2016 Administrators Report Share Posted January 18, 2016 Well being a fan of the genuine OEM battery's (JOHNSON) I've been considering a new one for my coupe as Project Black needs one, so will donate my relatively new after-market one to that cause . Also looking through the spec's and speaking to Yuasa UK the suppliers for most things battery related to Honda.these days Anyway I decided to purchase a genuine one p/n: 31500SP0041HE (Varta E24) Honda only offering a 3-year ticket compared to a genuine Honda battery (Bosch S4027) sold in America which come with an 8-year warranty
Founding Member Mazda Man Posted January 20, 2016 Founding Member Report Share Posted January 20, 2016 Co-incidentally, the battery on my wife's Civic finally gave up the ghost at the weekend. I'd been telling her for week but no, "it will be ok until the end of the month". The cold finally killed it. So off I went to the local specialist battery shop (where I got my last battery from for Bluey), he tested it with a device and said the needle should be at 9....hers was at around 4!!! Sticker on the side confirmed it was made in 2007 and had been on the car since then so it hasn't done too bad. Managed to get a new battery for £55.00 (guy said Yuasa makes them but they re-brand them), fitted it and whoosh....starts first time and gets the wife off my back so win-win!
Mangoman
I would say a replacement according to Bosch would be 005 Battery. More or less identical dimensions and power. Capacity (C20) 60 Ah CCA (EN) 540 A Length 232 mm Width 173 mm Height inc. terms 225 mm http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-batteries/battery/most-popular-car-battery/005-car-batteries/?444770057&0&cc5_1002 not cheap... Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted December 8, 2016 Moderators Report Share Posted December 8, 2016 The part number search on the website doesn't come up with anything, however i did a manual search and found this instead : https://carbatteries-online.co.uk/product/005r-type-extra-heavy-duty-advanced-xd-car-battery/ Same dimensions give or take 3mm, 560A CCA and 60Ah so should do the job well and a lot cheaper than the Bosch version : https://carbatteries-online.co.uk/product/bosch-s4025-car-battery/ Further searching reveals that it is a replacement for the 027 battery which is standard fit on mine with the 096 usually being fitted to the diseasel 800s. However the one you found is pretty similar to what i just found as well,
Mangoman
I've just noticed that ECP Batteries have jumped in price enormously!!!! I bought a 100 Exide about three years ago for the R75 for about £57.00 with 25% off. Now over £75 with discount...!!! http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-parts/car-electrics-and-car-lighting/electrical/car-battery/?444771000&&cc5_996
Administrators hughezee Posted December 8, 2016 Administrators Report Share Posted December 8, 2016 I have been impressed with a Bosch battery I took out of my Shuttle but that's about it, the rest have been piss poor over the years, the ones I've been supplied anyway I just fit Genuine Honda batteries, they fit better than any other, take more abuse and normally last 8-10 years for £75.00 delivered for the V6 Coupe and now on sale £59.99 you can't go wrong chaps
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted December 8, 2016 Moderators Report Share Posted December 8, 2016 Is that the Club Shop price Stu? Say for example Bill needed a battery, surely the delivery cost on top of that would bring it to the same or more than he can get the equivalent battery online? Moderators PTR200S Posted May 25, 2020 Moderators Report Share Posted May 25, 2020 With the Yuasa battery on the Coupe giving up the hunt was on for a replacement. Tried all the usual suspects including checking main dealer websites. Finally tracked down a replacement yuasa at a good price on Amazon of all places !! The new version of the ybx3031 battery has an increase capacity of 72ah and increased cca of 630 amps. I am pretty happy with yuasa having used them a lot previously, particularly with motorcycles so going with them again. I would have been happy with a Honda one if I could have found one at decent money......money a touch scarce right now !!
Moderators PTR200S Posted May 30, 2020 Moderators Report Share Posted May 30, 2020 Battery arrived !! One day late but who's counting.....still on lockdown really....although judging by the traffic and the number of people wandering around the touristy bit I was going through for a few days this week it looks like its finished !!! The battery is the new uprated version too, just got to venture out into the plus 24C heat to fit it !
Site Subscriber’s davebrads Posted May 31, 2020 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted May 31, 2020 Coincidentally I also fitted a new Yuasa battery in my coupe yesterday. The alarm went off but I was expecting that, I think it has always happened for me when I've had a dead battery, but the fob worked straight away. The car started straight away, turning over nicely, though its still Sorn'd so it couldn't go anywhere. Then the missus tried to go shopping in the Jazz and it would not start, nothing at all when she turned the key. So the first job for that poor new battery was to try and jump start the Jazz but without any joy. We called the RAC out but he was unable to get it started so it's gone to the garage to be sorted on Monday after we bump started it. I didn't think he would get far, but the cover includes up to 3 days car hire so I thought it worth going through the motions. But because of coronavirus the local hire shop is closed and getting hold of a car was going to be more effort than it was worth so we've given up on the idea. She's insured on the daughter's Civic now which cost £10 so no great hardship, especially when daughter is working from home and doesn't need the at herself. I'll probably tax the Coupe on Monday, I'm looking forward to driving it again. 3
Moderators PTR200S Posted May 31, 2020 Moderators Report Share Posted May 31, 2020 Which version of the yuasa did you go for? Odd the Jazz is playing up, what year is it ? Bit of odd info, the Jazz is the best car to get through an mot in 2019.....bottom of heap ,literally, the Megane !!

The Jazz is a 2004 car. The only problem we've had with it at MOT time is related to an inferior cat that was fitted by Halfords which Stu has managed to bodge to make it work something like the original. A sad story and a lesson learnt.
Moderators PTR200S Posted June 1, 2020 Moderators Report Share Posted June 1, 2020 2004, same as one of ours, never failed to start......intrigued to know what the garage finds 🙂 re the battery, slightly smaller than the one I got but more importantly, for me, was the terminals were positive left , neg right. Honda must have changed cable positions at some point ??? Stu ? 🙃
