  1. That doesn't surprise me at all, have you got a link to where they're saying it was a hybrid? It's about the only way a diseasel car can make like a dog and go "Woof!" the way that did on the CCTV etc.
  2. If they've gone hard, the sidewalls won't flex as they should so the tread will "skate" where it would previously have gripped. Nearly 7 years old is probably past their life expectancy if you consider they probably have a 30k miles tread life, most people work on 10k miles/year so the rubber is probably only designed to stay soft for a bit over 3 years, maybe 5 at a push. Puts my 11 year old (the newest i've found so far) Pirellis into perspective and why they only grip the wheel when trying to remove them! I don't remember you saying you're also losing your grip - i probably am as well in that case! Falken are good tyres, had them on my Sterling and they gripped like the proverbial on a blanket. I would have gone for them on the Jag but the cost was £STUPID so i opted for Maxxis instead. I'll let you know how they go once i've done all 4 of them, currently revamping my tyre changer and improving it, ran into a few design malfunctions so it's taken a lot longer than it should have done but it's functioning now.
  3. Old tyres do go hard and lose grip Pete and i also have slightly-stronger-than-vague-memories of you saying the old front tyres had gone on the back - this is the Davanti tyres we're talking about? In fact, the only thing old tyres grip really well are the bloody wheels when you're trying to remove them!
  4. When the AC is in use or when the engine temp climbs above 97C(?) so yes, it is normal. I'm going on memory from the Rover saying 97C, even that may be mixing it up with something else but in simple terms, the second fan comes in after the first if it appears the first isn't coping or if the AC is in use. Could simply be one brake is contacting the disc sooner and causing an imbalance in speeds through the diff and an obvious imbalance to you as the wheels are off the ground. When you get it back on the road, see if you notice anything driving it. That all sounds good to me - next stage is to get those fluid coolers reconnected, repeat the above tests to ensure no leaks and then the acid test, see how it drives!
  5. Not on the same day and it's a busy roundabout on the A11 near Thetford so a bit tricky to wander around it. I did notice the tarmac was discoloured the next day in the right area so i reckon a good gallon of juggernaut-juice splashed onto the asphalt.
  6. I had a similar one a couple of years back in the Volvo but dry, hot summer day. On to a roundabout and off at the first exit, noticed a BMW in my rear view mirror coming round the roundabout a bit quick so i squeezed the loud pedal. Back went down and started pulling well then suddenly, the back swung out to the right then gripped before i had a chance to opposite lock it so a quick twitch on the wheel and going straight again. Meanwhile the BM driver turned pale as the back end nearly took him out! Pretty sure that was a diseasel spill as well.
  7. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392596552231 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224330424371 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265910277438 A few options there, last one uses releasable cable ties and is a pack of 100 for £4.99, a bit better than £20 for 30 items! Try searching "push-fit cable tie mounts" on ebay and set your filters to "Lowest price inc P&P" or however ebay word that option.
  8. Ecellent progress there! Which clips are you after? There is a good range on both ebay and Amazon of vehicle specific clips/fasteners etc much cheaper than genuine. Granted some are slightly lower quality but given how cheap they are, i'd call that a fair trade off.

    Hi

That appears to be how they overcome saying they are exempt. Imports from the USA of pick-up trucks carry automatic exemption (even if new or a few years old) because pick-up trucks aren't tested for emissions there. As such, no emissions data exists so they can't be categorised, same as our classic cars so i would suspet they've done a "one size fits all" response for cars that are exempt. It has indeed!

    Hi

If you're using a PC with a mouse, move the curor over the avatar on the left of someones post and it brings up a little info about them plus a couple of other buttons, one of which is "Message". Click/tap that and you can Private Message (PM) that person. However if anyone is interested in the general stuff, i'd suggest you answer that within this thread so others can see it too - it may be the original person isn't interested after a certain bit of information but others are. I can tell you most of the members on here are in/around the west midlands area, some are further afield but aside from a member in the Cornwall area i think i'm the next cloest to the main "population" of members and i'm in East Anglia. It might even be that as you discuss your car(s) it'll be a relatively simple job to get at least one back on the road for you.

    Hi

Welcome aboard! What area are you in and how much are you looking for?
  12. I checked my CR-V the other day and oddly, for a 2002 car, it's ULEZ Compliant so i only have to pay the Indigestion Charge if i want to drive in London. That's because it's a classic car and they are exempt, if i'd kept my Volvo another 5 years until 2028 so it was 40 years old, that would have become exempt too. It has to be registered as a Historic Vehicle with the Divvy-La-La though.
  13. I thought that was Wales via the Severn Bridge? Got to be jam on first or the jam, being thicker than the cream, pushes the cream off the edge..........
  14. Hmmmm, tempting until you see the two damaged OS doors, the rust around the rear arches and the skew-whiff rear bumper. I think £2k is a bit much for a scruffy one.
  15. Welcome aboard! As already mentioned, the knowledge bose on ehre for the Elysion is growing and comprehensive! I keep thinking about one but can't justify it - yet!
  16. Not as late as me! Welcome aboard, as most have said, parts aren't a great problem if you know where to look. As for the exhaust, as Stu says they are incredibly sensitive not only to back pressure but the volume of the exhaust as well as it is a tuned length and diameter so not only would you lose power with a bigger bore exhaust but the economy would also drop and it would be extremely loud too!
  17. Is it just me or do large MPVs in white look like fridges on wheels? Shame really lol! Still wouldn't refuse one though!
  18. If it wasn't red and i hadn't bought my CR-V 4 months back i'd probably have had that, especially as it's reasonably local to me. I'm sure another member would like to take it on, who i don't know though. Good luck with the sale, if all else fails i may know a car dealer that would buy it and fit a new exhaust and rent it to the USAF personnel - no idea on what he'd be likely to give you for it and that would be between you and him anyway. That would hopefully be a last resort though.
  19. Nice but two things put me off it immediately - the colour (personal) and no sign of a timing belt change in that "extensive" service record. Also would prefer the 2.2i ES instead but not likely to own another regardless of engine size/colour sadly.
  20. Sounds like the aerial amp to me, on the KA1 and Rover 800 this was centrally mounted on the underside of the rear parcel shelf, daresay it's in the same position (or near) on the KB1 as it supplies power to the HRW and also uses the HRW element as the aerial. Chances are there's a dry solder joint inside the amp unit.
  21. That says you're screwed, left, right and centre!
  22. One of the punctures i had on the Jag a few months ago also scuppered the tyre - i literally only moved it a couple of feet to be able to position the jack to change the wheel! Had the puncture repaired and then a huge carbuncle appeared on the sidewall/shoulder area - this should have appeared when they inflated it to check and i'm fairly sure it did but i wasn't close enough to be certain. Temporarily bought a used one as i knew i was getting a complete set of new tyres in the not too distant future..........
