  1. The Rover 213 VDP was essentially the second gen Ballade with Rover badges and trim - as you say, the partnership (from the 1981 Anchorage Agreement) was in its infancy then but blossomed into some excellent cars, for both Honda and Rover. The previous 1st gen Ballade was only sold here as the Triumph Acclaim, itself an excellent car using the same formula. In the USA, the Acura Legend (as it was branded) set the benchmark for new cars from new "premium" divisions of existing car makers. According to an old myth (or should i say legend ) Honda stole Rovers thunder by launching the Legend a short time before intended in the USA as both the Legend and Sterling 825 (as the Rover 825 was called there) were allegedly destined to launch on the same day. Toyota, not to be outdone, created the Lexus LS400 in just 3 years, essentially revamping a Toyota Celsior (a JDM only car at the time) into a more modern rendering with extras over and above what the JDM would have had. Now, most people think of the Lexus as being the first premium brand car from a manufacturer, i am very smug when i explain the above to people who try telling me that! Whichever way you look at it, the Honda-Rover Alliance and mutally owned shares in each other (i believe 22% holding by each partner of the others company) made for some excellent cars - if it hadn't been for the aggressive takeover by BMW of Rover and BAe not being able to stand up to the Germans, i firmly believe not only would Rover still be here but Honda would have gone in a slightly different direction and both companies would be in a much better position now. Thankfully we still have some of the cars from that period.
  2. I had the Rover 827 in both Sterling (saloon) and Coupe form, both 2.7 obviously. Fantastic cars, always fancied an early Legend Coupe but no room etc etc to do what you're doing. Good luck with it all!
  3. Not only found a good home but from the sond of it, its true spiritual home too! Looking forward to the updates!
  4. Is it this one Pete? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126366131473 A lot of car for the money!
  5. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305406394946? It certainly is the same seller. Could be a number of innocent reasons like the buyer backed out on winning, the buyer lives in Scotland or somewhere equally remote/far from Todmorden (i think that's in Essex?) or similar. Could be the buyer messed the seller about or didn't make contact or maybe the seller and buyer had conflicting personalities. Just trying to play Devils Advocate here, not very successfully i don't think!
  6. Maybe someone did and that's why it's up for grabs again. Usually if there's a genuine reason for being back up for sale, the listing will say so. I wonder if it's the same seller again?
  7. From what i can work out, it was imported/registered September 2012 but is a 2005 car so got an age-related reg. By rights it should be ULEZ compliant but the TfL website says not, presumably because it's an import. Yes, 88240 but in 2019 it jumped to 88242 then back to 88240. Weird! Maybe the speedo isn't working?
  8. That's one of the usual causes, the other would be the sunroof drain elbows (Honda call them valves) in the boot area. This was my 827, i'm fairly certain the other Honda models are similar. The sunroof drain downpipe is the glossy black pipe hidden just behind the upside down U shape clip more or less in the centre and feeds in to the "valve" which is matt black. The outleet of the valve is like a set of lips that tend to go hard with age/limescale and restrict the outflow, if the join isn't watertight to the downpipe then it leaks from there as a result.
  9. I'd say that's what he means. Some people just tick all the options when listing and if challenged say something like "it tells you if you have a bulb out, that's driver information isn't it?". It's often called s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g a point.................................
  10. Those are the positive bits and why i reacted with a hand-clap in case you're wondering. New eras can be daunting - scary even but i'm a big believer in everything happening for a reason, some good will come out of the whole situation!
  11. Only to be expected from a horrendous diesel converted from a peach of a petrol engine by Peugeot and Ford. I'm glad about that - i nearly bought an E-Class (S124) when i was looking and bought my CR-V, good to know Honda ride quality in general is better than Mercedes. Is your Elysion a CVT jobby then? The V6 would probably have been better on petrol as it's a "normal" automatic rather than a "rubber band" thing. Getting it up to normal road speeds would help though. Have a quick look at this page, one post is comparing my local LPG price and the economy i get from it Vs economy on petrol and my local BP Ultimate price. While i'm one of the most pro-LPG people on here (maybe the most pro) i can't justify the cost of going somewhere special for it when the different consumption figures outweigh the cost saving. Likely to get worse with what's going on in the Middle East and Russia, now that senile Joe Biden has stopped LPG (or propane as they call it stateside) production plants being built.

  13. Having done (and also NOT done) some swaps in my time, one thing i can say for certain is that both parties will need to be happy before the swap (whether that includes a cash adjustment either way or not) happens. If one party isn't happy with the swap being offered, it ain't gonna happen! I know this sounds like common sense and i'm pretty sure both of you realise this as well but it's always nice to double-check before you get too deeply involved/invested - ultimately if you get to the viewing with potential to do the swap that will be the final crunch time. If it doesn't live up to expectations on either side, walk (or should i say drive) away. Without wishing to put words in Petes mouth, i'm fairly sure he'd say the same or at least, similar.
  14. Wrong colour, engine and transmission for me sadly. Had a vague embryo of an idea but it won't work with that combo for me.
  15. Quite likely if the battery is a bit on the old or fragile side ^^^^^
  16. Something else worth checking is the battery condition, especially since we've just exited the New Ice Age. If a battery is low and taking an abnormally large amount of charge, while it won't put the charge warning light on there might not be enough spare to cover the EFi system and also voltage variations can cause glitches in the system. Try Petes method above, if that seems to work for a while, repeat it but leave the batery cables disconnected and do an overnight trickle charge, preferably from a dumb charger. Then touch the battery cables together (before reconnecting to the battery) for about 30 seconds and see how things go from there. If it still throws up the EML, read the codes and go from there.
  17. Just an extra vote for Stus recommendations on cambelt and kit, i've not had a problem with Gates myself but can definitely recommend Blueprint as being excellent quality. That said, the Gates belts i've used have been on standard engines, SOHC and 2 valves per pot.
  18. Welcome aboard - belatedly! Life has got in the way of living for the past few months for me but settling down again now thankfully! The Elysion is gaining ground as a very popular choice among people who want the "thinking mans sheeple carrier" - in other words, not for sheeple! Hope you enjoy it! Keep thinking about one myself but since finally overcoming the horrendous fuel consumption of my CR-V (Accord in a breeze-block dress) i think i'll stick with it but i do miss that V6 growl/howl although i do have something that gies it to me!
  19. Those people really wind me up! 🀬 Especially those Just Stop Oil idiots that block roads creating so many emissions from people sat there with their engines idling, not to mention ambulances and other emergency service vehicles not being able to get past! If i had my way, they would be converted into fuel for all those vehicles..............
  20. The "New Ice Age" is well and truly here! Rumour has it that next week it'll be up to 13-15C but as the temperature goes up in winter, the wet stuff comes down too. Think we've all seen enough rain to last a lifetime, i know i have recently!
  21. It was -6C here last night again, i've also worked in -12 to -15C outside - wasn't nice! Coldest i've worked in was -32C indoors!
  22. Snow, snow, thick, thick snow! Well its thick if youre an ant anyway!
