  1. It's interesting - in Europe we were given what basically amounted to a rebadged SLK but in the states, their top model was a 5.7 V8. I guess handling did have something to do with that decision. And yes, the 300c is a wallowy old beast but the estate makes a great mover of stuff.
  2. The 3.2l V6 is MB and the SRT-6 has 330hp, all on a MK1 SLK chassis. To be fair, the Honda felt big and wallowy until it was lowered 😀
  3. Yeah - even the wheels are huge! It'd be nice to try one of the big mercedes engined beasts out but otherwise, I'd stick with my Honda.
  4. A lovely drive today, windows down, sunroof open and the heated seat on 😀 A quick blast across the county and back with an empty boot for a change, it's such a lovely motor on days like this. The car park after was rather American...
  5. Turns out it was the heatshield - since it's been lowered, it catches on a few of the speed bumps around here and yesterday, having a thrash to Buckingham, it bottomed out on a country lane and I reckon that must have been almost the end. The exhaust looks solid still and the catalyst is fine, so I'll get my better half's brother who owns a metal fabricators to make a repair or make a simple new one.
  6. Hmmm. Just checked the schematic, courtesy of Stu's posts, and it's the cat's cover that's come adrift.
  7. Well, Luvvy, as the Mrs now calls her, passed 100k today. Two miles later she promptly let some big metal cover on the exhaust or catalyst fall off. I think she didn't like aging 😂
  8. I'm gonna turn 100k this week and I reckon mine is starting to go.
  9. "Most of those miles were leisurely" I know mine aren't - I don't think a day goes by that it doesn't hit the redline. It's what Honda vTec was made for 😀
  10. I've had these a while, in a couple of my vans and they've been sat on the shelf in their box for two years now. Thought I'd best use them again.
  11. After an accident involving a passenger and vomit, my coupe has had a very thorough cleaning inside, I even removed the door card. Treated the leather to AutoGlyn cleaner, followed by the restorer cream and I have to say, they look a treat! It passed 99k at the weekend - still runs lovely, just a shame about the paintwork. Next job is fitting a decent sound system. Focal components and a shiny new amp if some sort.
  12. One of the matt lime green ones, pretty new and way quicker. Progressing quicker would be greatly helped in my opinion by a manual box. It might change faster than me but it's often in the wrong gear. If there's a sequence of bends and a quirky exit, it's next to useless compared to a manual box, with which I can pick the right gear to maximize the speed leaving the last corner. I've tried playing with the stick, it does help sometimes but then again, sometimes it doesn't. It'd be nice to have a play on my favourite roads in a CG4, I don't reckon there'd be much difference.
  13. Apples and pears but I had the inside lane on a rising left bend - he only had me on the brakes into the roundabout, I think he was lacking in conviction in the corner 😉 No, there's not a lot of tuning as the engine doesn't respond to it awfully well. Short of changing the engine and box, you're stuck. I do feel that a manual box would be fantastic and make a fast car into a quick car. I can dream.
  14. Sad to hear that mate. Tom had really bad flu followed by a couple of jobs that took more than the expected time - done now tho.
  15. New rear discs and pads and replacement of the brake pipe that runs to the back - done yesterday and I have to say, it's nice to be able to brake properly again. They've not been right since I got back from the Alps but due to illness at the garage etc, it's took a while to get them done All the bushes etc on the suspension side checked, there the odd bang since I had the car lowered but we've come to the conclusion that it's the exhaust when the potholes are severe. So gave the car a good whizz to work this morning - it was bouncing on the redline in third for at least ten seconds! Damn Focus RS had the better of me easily tho 😂
  16. I fitted Cross Climates on my V6 earlier this year and I have to say, they've performed much better than expected on summer roads. I've been hacking around the Alps, braking hard downhill and they've not let go once. I'm staggered at the braking grip for an all season tyre. I can't say anything about winter grip but they're fine with mud, I go off-road or really that should be "I go off metalled roads" and I'm getting everywhere I want. Tyre wear so far is minimal for 6 months use.
  17. The man above did mine for me - a splendid job, genuine parts and the car has been ragged to within an inch of it's life since, with no worries 😎 It's probably worth going to Stu to get it done and getting him to scan around the car, he'll find anything amiss quickly but he also won't look for work. He's as honest a trademan as you'll find and worth traveling for.
  18. So I fitted a KDC-430u Kenwood head unit today, no problems and this new baby has hands free calls and Spotify control. My din adapter had been cadged by my daughter a couple of weeks ago for her Vauxhall, she had a long journey ahead and I was left with a hole in the dash and no sounds. So £75 for the head unit and less than £3 for the lead, not so bad in the scheme of things. 22w RMS per channel I believe. I fitted the mic in the blank button space under the head unit, the one to the left.
  19. I recently whizzed past 20,000 miles of motoring in the coupe since I've owned it 😎
  20. Had a lovely drive across the county this morning. 20 miles of back roads, mostly great tarmac and perfect early morning weather. The lowered suspension and the new front tyres were superb. I was getting a little tired of the jiggling, crashing and banging on the potholes of town roads and this morning was a reminder of why I sorted the suspension. Roll on tomorrow morning and another 20 mile dash. I even get a parking space.
  21. No, mine were powder coated but I've hung around a factory watching it done often enough when I used booths regularly to spray work stuff. I've personally restored wheels before, sprayed with decent kit obviously and there's not a chance I could get them like my refurbs. Not for £300, which was my point.
  22. Agreed - I also paid £300. I'm a painter and I know I couldn't have done anything like as good a job in just two days. Mine are holding up well.
  23. Gotta say, it's worth doing the wheels properly - it's such a small amount of money for something that lifts the whole car. They look fab. After I had mine refurbed, I had to get 68mm centre caps, as the 69s wouldn't sit properly and I lost a few.
