Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted February 26, 2020 Moderators Report Share Posted February 26, 2020 I wonder how many speeding tickets he's had? Speedo reads 35mph in a 35mph limit, wheels are giving 50mph! Ridiculous with a capital "F"! Must have a turning circle the size of a super-tankers! If you enlarge the image, you can see the tyres are being scuffed on the sidewalls by the arches! 1
Site Subscriber’s Kelvin Posted February 26, 2020 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted February 26, 2020 Mad as a box of frogs on amphetamines 😂 Definitely not a car to do long distances in. How many tyres per mile?! 1

Could be why it's parked by the side of the road with no tags/licence plates. Probably blown out one of the tyres we can't see. 🙄 2 1

Site Subscriber’s Kieran Posted June 6, 2022 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted June 6, 2022 Hi guys, just a quick one, I'm having the 17" oem alloys rubbered up tomorrow, is it worth sticking to 215s as it says or go with 225s?
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted June 6, 2022 Moderators Report Share Posted June 6, 2022 I would stick with the 215s as specced, the 225s would have to be even lower profile which might cause a few trips to the chiropractor!
Founding Member AhsyV6 Posted June 6, 2022 Founding Member Report Share Posted June 6, 2022 I have 225’s on my 17’s and it has Koni shocks and H&R springs and have to say the ride is spot on. It has been 8 yrs now so suspension parts have worn hence the car being with Stu so maybe he’ll give an honest opinion.
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted June 6, 2022 Moderators Report Share Posted June 6, 2022 Much of it is down to personal preference and whether the person selecting the tyres has any back or similar problems.

Fair dos. I think an increase in wheel diameter would have more of an impact that width of the tyre….do you see my logic?
Site Subscriber’s Kieran Posted June 6, 2022 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted June 6, 2022 I've had new eihbach springs and kyt shocks put in around a month ago and lowered it 35mm, I've gone for the ones you have @AhsyV6 as I love them on yours. These are enkei as couldn't find genuine ones at a reasonable price.

I don’t feel after all that work you’ll feel much more of a difference going from 215’s to 225’s

The diameter of the tyre needs to stay the same, no matter what size the wheel is or the width. As the width goes up, so must the profile go down for a given wheel diameter. As the wheel diameter increases, the profile (aspect ratio) must reduce to compensate. That's why 195/65/15, 205/55/16 and 215/45/17 are all the same overall diameter (within a small tolerence) and each has a smaller amoutn of sidewall height as the wheel diameter increases. Founding Member AhsyV6 Posted June 6, 2022 Founding Member Report Share Posted June 6, 2022 I get all of that and all I was just casting an option saying that I didn’t thing it would have much of an impact given that he’s done the suspension and that ride will be different anyway. I never dispute what you say Dave…..I’ve learnt too much off you to do that!

I never dispute what you say Dave…..I’ve learnt too much off you to do that! We're both saying the same things from different angles Ahsy, depending what he's done to the suspension it will either be very little difference on the wider/lower profile tyres or it will really jar the ride. A couple of examples : When i first got my Volvo, it was on 185/60/15 tyres - wrong size, not sure why! When they needed replacing, i went for 195/65/15, instant improvement in ride quality and roadholding/handling. Also corrected about 75% of the speedo error too!! When i bought the "Imposter", the 827SLi that had leather and alloys from the factory, it was on those factory option alloys that were 17" with 215/45/17 tyres. It had the standard anti-roll bars front and rear and standard suspension otherwise. The ride was incredibly harsh and jarring and it didn't handle all that well. Comparing it to my Sterling which was on 205/55/16 tyres, standard (although later) springs and dampers but with the thickest ARBs fitted to the 800 range, the Sterling had much better ride quality, handled better and generally felt like a different model, not just a different car.
Site Subscriber’s Kieran Posted June 7, 2022 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted June 7, 2022 Really appreciate the help tho guys, I don't know what I'd do without this forum 😅 I'll send some pics once the wheels are on!
Founding Member PaulS Posted June 7, 2022 Founding Member Report Share Posted June 7, 2022 Guess it all dpends on what your goal is. There is a school of thought that says big wheels and rubber band tyres look great and perform well on race circuits whereas small wheels and tractor tyres look silly but give a more comfortable ride on our potholed roads. On my Merc E350, I have nice 17" wheels with skinnier sidewalls for summer use (Bridgestone Potenza), but plain 16" and higher sidewalls (Michelin Alpin) for winter use. I prefer the ride comfort improvements on the 16" winter wheels and find the 17" wheels seem to transmit every road imperfection. Run flat tyres are even worse for road surface imperfection transmission into the cabin. A word of warning - Insurance! Should you not be using standard spec wheels & tyres, your insurance could refuse a payout in the event of an accident unless you tell them beforehand... Boring I know, but that's life . Insurance seem to want to find any excuse to not pay up or reduce your payout.... 3

Went for some 225/45/R17 tyres and to be honest the ride is so nice, probably helps with the recent new suspension and forks. Got some honda hub caps coming too so I can get rid of the current ones 2

Site Subscriber’s Kieran Posted July 18, 2022 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted July 18, 2022 Hi guys! I can't wait for the meet! Not sure if this is allowed on here. I'm wondering if anybody was interested in purchasing my OEM wheels? they got refurbished just under a year ago, perfect condition and I've done less than 2k on these Michelin tyres also! Thought I'd offer them here before I turn to ebay. https://ibb.co/v1ftX8vhttps://ibb.co/5MYt4gWhttps://ibb.co/kXhzjCvhttps://ibb.co/09QhNy7https://ibb.co/LJd5TY8https://ibb.co/12Wc8q1https://ibb.co/myqJMp9https://ibb.co/ng81JDV
