Administrators hughezee Posted September 4, 2014 Administrators Report Posted September 4, 2014 One of the local Coupe clan popped over today with a problem and he had been feeling a thumping sensation on start up and when changing gear which was steadily getting worse, now it has failed completely. Filled it with a liquid gasket as a temporary measure and it did improve things a little. 2

CharlesM Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 A quick question, when checking the engine mounts for deterioration, what should I be looking for? 1
Administrators hughezee Posted March 24, 2016 Author Administrators Report Posted March 24, 2016 Several mounts I've replaced haven't been as obvious as oil everywhere if it's been left a while and dried up, the best thing is to try and move the engine near the mount and if flops about easily very likely the mount is gone or look for splits, but not easily spotted given its location I know 4
CharlesM Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 I'll have a look when it's stopped raining. This may take some time. 2
CharlesM Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 Well, a beautiful sunny and warm start to the day, absolutely delightful. A movement test of the engine near the mount revealed a fair amount of play, so then out with the camera. Light levels in the engine bay were so low that I couldn't get the camera to autofocus and I had to bring out the flashgun. 2
Founding Member AhsyV6 Posted March 25, 2016 Founding Member Report Posted March 25, 2016 Excellent piece of investigative work Charles. Will be interesting to see what a difference it makes to your shifts? Ditto lovely sunny day but a shame about the forecasted rest of the weekend! 2
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted March 25, 2016 Moderators Report Posted March 25, 2016 Definitely looks past its best Charles!

Administrators hughezee Posted March 25, 2016 Author Administrators Report Posted March 25, 2016 To confirm failure press the area under the bolt with your fingers, to see its true state of health 1
CharlesM Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 It was very flaccid to the touch, still got some pressure but pretty soft. Needs a double dose of Viagra! 2
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted March 25, 2016 Moderators Report Posted March 25, 2016 Oooo-errrr missus! Nowt worse than having flaccid rubber! 2
CharlesM Posted March 25, 2016 Report Posted March 25, 2016 So I need to locate an engine mount - are there any options other than handing over the wallet for punishment at a dealer?
