Hey All.

Just joined as Im looking to buy a Honda Elysion and looking for help on what to look out for, gauge prices and best engine size to go for.

We are a family of 4, soon to be 5 and i want to avoid going down the Ford SMax or VW Transporter route.

I LOVE the look of the Elysion, but what are the problems with owning an import (if any).

Thanks :)

Hi there!

Welcome to H6nda!

First off, good luck in your search for the ideal Elysion.  There are quite a few around now as more get imported but still a rarity on the road .

Are you intending to buy privately? Or fresh from an import dealer ?

I would suggest that you budget somewhere between 5 and 10k price wise depending on year and mileage.

You need to decide on engine size too...2.4 litre, 3.0 litre or 3.5 litre, the latter in the later year vehicles. All fine engines but quite a difference in power output.

Trim, well, a few different versions, with options on leather or cloth interiors, externally,  three models plus some additional stuff like Prestige or Aero.

If you find one you like check for rear fog light, mph speedo conversion and definitely get one with a radio, sat nav conversion..the Japanese radio etc is absolutely junk !

Probably enough to get you started !!

Others will chip in with their thoughts and experiences too, no doubt 👍👍

Keep us updated with your search 😀😀😀

Welcome aboard! I don't know much about the Elysion but it's certainly a better proposition than a VW or Ford offering. From what i understand from members that run them, they are pretty good on fuel on a run with the bigger engines faring better than the smaller ones but round town seem to be similar.

Obviously all cars have their own little problems but as the band of owners grows and hopefully all find their way here, the knowledge base will also grow so with a bit of luck, someone on here will have encountered any model-specific problems and be able to help out quickly.

Good luck with your search, we'll all expect to see pics when you find your chosen chariot! :P

There is no problem with service parts,  it's basically a Honda Legend 3.5 engine.....no problem with parts for the 3.0 litre or the 2.4,  the latter is the K24 engine, think Accord, Acura etc.

The bit that becomes more difficult are body parts and trims...whilst most can be found you may need to settle for secondhand stuff from breakers which in the scheme of things shouldn't be a problem as most Elysion are over 10 years old anyway.  Unless of course you get a Chinese built one.

Cox Motor parts, Amayama.com are a couple of good new part suppliers, UK and Japanese respectively. A lot of independent motor part suppliers are now more aware of the Elysion therefore compatible aftermarket stuff is available although you may have to hunt it down !!

A lot of owners have been through the mill finding difficult stuff and there is quite a bit of help and expertise published on line now.

Do check out the insurance angle too, there are a wide variation on quotes from so called "specialists " in jap motors to the comparison websites that we, owners, have manged to get some models onto in the last couple for years.

So ownership shouldn't be a problem,  I have had mine just short of 5 years now, done the spares and repair bit, been through the crash damage repairs stuff, currently still driving her and loving it.🥰🥰🥰

If you want interesting then get an Elysion,  alternatively,  get a Ford Boring Smax !,,,,,,

Amazing!

Thanks for the detailed info. Definitely a help and gives me a lot more confidence in my search for an Elysion.

Ive made the decision that I would rather spend my money on an Elysion and enjoy what i’m driving, than an SMAX that anyone could own.

Are there any guides on MPG’s of each of the engine sizes? REAL user examples and not suggested ones?

Thank you!

It does seem that all the engines are pretty similar in fuel consumption in overall use, town, motorway,  mixed BUT town figures for the bigger engines are not great. The motorway figures seem to be better on the bigger engines.

My 3 litre version averages around 24mpg in town, severe stop start type conditions and loaded. Can be lower 🤣🤣🤣🤣

On the motorway/ long runs 28 to 30 but anything up to 35mpg , sometimes more, on constant speed runs.

Again, depends how it's loaded, eight up plus luggage doesn't help ! However, the mpg tends to be better than say the 2.4 fully loaded. Probably a lot to do with the bhp too.

2.4 litre is about 160bhp, 3 litre 250 bhp, 3.5 is 300bhp whilst the four wheel drive is around 280 if I recall.

The Elysion weighs around 1.8 tonnes so fairly hefty to lug around......
