Moderators PTR200S Posted December 27, 2022 Moderators Report Share Posted December 27, 2022 Looks like the thermostat has started a go slow, much like the train drivers, postal workers, uncivil servants, teachers etc...sometimes it's seems OK then others it seems to be really slow on heat up. The Coupe with the same engine, obviously, takes about 2 miles maximum, to get to temperature from a cold start...the Elysion is now taking around 4 miles, sometimes slightly less but definetly on a go slow. Anyone changed their stat in the Elysion? 19301P8EA10 What did you replace it with ? Genuine or something like a Blueprint that we use in the Coupe?? Elysion version is ADH29221 Gates version appears to be TH05977G1
Administrators hughezee Posted December 28, 2022 Administrators Report Share Posted December 28, 2022 The older Gates stuff would be my first choice, but if in doubt I would just go for OEM. 👍 1
Site Subscriber’s RevvinKevin Posted December 28, 2022 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted December 28, 2022 Whilst we are talking of engine warm up times. I really will have check and time my KB1 because with this recent cold snap I think mine might be taking longer than it should. Does it make any difference whether the AC is on or off?

When idling it will warm up quicker with it off, driving whilst the engine is cold or still warming up shouldn't make much difference.
Site Subscriber’s RevvinKevin Posted December 28, 2022 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted December 28, 2022 I'll time it a few times during the next few cold starts.
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted December 30, 2022 Moderators Report Share Posted December 30, 2022 Also worth checking to see where the needle gets to once fully warm, if lower than usual does it drop once you get on the open road after being in town/traffic for a while? If so, the 'stat is almost certainly weak.
Moderators PTR200S Posted January 12, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted January 12, 2023 Well, the stat was delivered today....is in a box marked Gates, correct part number but, as usual with Autodoc, it's not the correct one in the box. THE SEAL WAS BROKEN ALREADY AND THE BOX VERY TATTY. The actual stat is marked Motorad, 77C and it looks like a cheap copy...I realise that they are big manufacturers, Israeli?, but I ordered a Gates....its got a long nose too....hope the Elysion doesn't have a short one 🙃🙃 I don't know why I bother with Autodoc,,,they are as bad as that other crowd,,name escapes me,,, Written a stiff email to them, ooh, errr !!!!!! I am so ANGRY 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Agreed BUT it wasn't a motorad I ordered, they have said it was Gates, its boxed as Gates, labelled as Gates, I paid for Gates, and it's not !!! Still annoyed, however, I am now wondering if motorad make them for Gates ?? Surely they wouldn't put them in a Gates box ??? A quick Internet check and it seems as if a lot of others have received them like this with the box seals intact too, many supplied by Autodoc.... Fake stuff ????

You might find there's a disclaimer on their site Pete saying they may supply another of equal qualty if they don't have the specified item in stock.

Moderators PTR200S Posted January 14, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted January 14, 2023 Well, getting absolutely nowhere with Autodont 🙃🙃🙃 Three emails in now, including pictures, and they just don't get it. I have just had to spell it out again. "Gates ordered, from your website, Motorad sent, no identifying marks for crosscheck to Honda numbers. , seals broken, box damaged and sellotaped " Obviously I was a bit more concise than above !!! but you get the idea. I don't want to take the van apart only to find its the wrong stat . Tempted to feck Autodick off and order a Honda one,, the saving buying this one has just gone out the window with wasted time. 🤬
Moderators PTR200S Posted January 18, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted January 18, 2023 Yet another email from Autodont saying that the Motorad is the same as Gates so tough shi💩💩💩💩t basically. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Administrators hughezee Posted February 6, 2023 Administrators Report Share Posted February 6, 2023 This is not an isolated thing, once quality aftermarket parts suppliers are farming out manufacturing, which goes to the cheapest builder.🤨 Edit: That's why I didn't buy a Gates thermostat this time around for the coupe. 🙄
Espace X
can anyone confirm that the facelift elysion (2008) 3.5 V6 variant uses the same thermostat as the earlier models? I'm about to buy a new thermostat and would like to be sure I'm getting the right one
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted November 7, 2023 Moderators Report Share Posted November 7, 2023 I'm pretty sure they're the same but someone else will be along soon to confirm
Moderators PTR200S Posted November 7, 2023 Author Moderators Report Share Posted November 7, 2023 The Honda part number is 19301-RAF- 003 or 004 (different makes) and is the same for the early 3 litre and later 3.5 litre as far as I can see with both models catalogues listing the same part number..
Espace X
Great thank you gents. I've ordered a febi bilstein 33457 thermostat. From the basic cross reference checks I've done it should be the correct one. I'll update and report back if it fits/does not fit. 1
