Which Coolant/ Antifreeze 1998 1999 2000 2001 CG Accord Coupe

As a follow up to past discussions regarding Coolant/ Antifreeze and the problems associated with using Honda Type 2 Coolant p/n: 08CLAG026L0 when used in older engines, which results in annoying leaks, vapour leaks and really unpleasant persistent odours (also requires replacement every 2 years). Although these symptoms from using Type 2 coolant can be elevated with some water dilution to the 50/50 mix up to 65% water to 35% coolant mix, improving the heat exchange process.

So I have illustrated one of the most common fluids used by myself or recommended by other members, so if you are looking for a standard fluid to TOP-UP you can use Honda Type 2 Coolant, but try avoid using large amounts i.e flushing the cooling system after maintenance or repairs on the cooling system (you have been warned). Owners looking for great protection or one stop solution or just a TOP-UP I would highly recommend Prestone Coolant Antifreeze. 👍

PLEASE NOTE: the information within this topic has been kindly contributed by one of our experienced members and has been extensively researched and found to be correct by independent testing or external resources. However' when replacing radiators and water pumps, some manufacturers insist on genuine coolant for warranty purposes, please adhere to this advice.

Where did you notice those leaks ? Is this coolant too thin or something ?

its the content mix, leaks around hoses radiator caps, thermostat housings, water pump seals, literally every old honda I've used it in it has leaked in some shape or form and it stinks when its in a warm engine bay 🤢

Little bit in the expansion bottle won’t hurt 😉

Certainly not mate, but once it becomes the majority fluid that's when the niggles start and the UK version is not long life either 🙄

Preston coolant concentrate 35% mix works well, allot of older Hondas specified 35% anyway, rather than type 2 50/50 mix

Is there a coolant change how-to on here somewhere?

A couple of pictures illustrating the bottom radiator drain, worth checking out the topic link below, its basically the same process on the coupe.

Hello knowledgeable types,

Took the expansion tank out to get at the bulbs and couldn't help noticing that it appeared to be largely water.

Oh and another thing to check whilst you are under there,  another pearl of wisdom from Stu. 😃

Maybe a bump needed for the clamp warning. Depending on the viewing angle it may be deceptive if you can only see the thick side, when it's the two thin sections which are the real weak point to check.

New phone keeps glitching with this forum and throw multiple spaces and new lines when typing 🙄 not sure why but takes ages to correct. Also lost drop box links for images. Will drop one in Whatssapp
