very few insurers willing to quote or even know what the Elysion is

Reminds me of a conversation between me and my insurance broker (before i dragged myself into the 20th century and did it online) about 15 years ago :

Me : Morning Peter, i'm getting a new car next week.

Broker : Hello Dave, what is it?

M : Honda Accord

B : Saloon or Hatch?

M : No

B : Saloon or Hatch? (Slightly annoyed now - motions that he's slapping me round the face several times!)

M : No

B : What the hell is it then?

M : Coupe

B : Why didn't you say?

M : You didn't ask!

B : Fair point, not sure we can insure it though.

Eventually after several calls to the underwriters of my existing policy they found the car and agreed to continue cover until the policy expired but as it stood at the time, it wasn't something they'd usually cover so i'd probably have to change underwriters at the end of the policy.

By the time renewal came up, he'd retired through ill health and i had to go somewhere else and was online by then as well so wasn't a problem. Does go to show that anything not mainstream can be tricky, even with allegedly well-established brokers/underwriters.

I wish I could go online but the registration never comes up, if it does it is for the wrong vehicle...i ended up with specialist insurers.....but through the faceache group it apears a telephone call to the sports car type specialists gets a good quote !!!

depends how old you are and where you live

Don't forget to factor in occupation, whether business use is included and many other factors. Not to mention Petes was probably one of the first that broker/underwriter had seen as they're relatively new in the country.

Postcode does make a big difference though, about 16 years ago i moved from one part of the country to another and my insurance went down from £400 to £300 a year - suddenly got a cheque through from the insurers, phoned up to ask why and was told the good news! Not only was it a refund on the premium, i no longer had any monthly payments to make! Bonus! ;):D

On the basis my Coupe costs less than 200,  the xk8 even less than the Coupe and the TVR marginally over 200 the Elysion is EXPENSIVE !!!!!

Old? Yep,

location ? The sticks ( as paul says !!!)

I thought it was only 14 days but i might be out of touch. Either way, worth ringing them to check they haven't sent it and the postie has lost it. I've recently had an ebay item lost twice (second time by 24hr tracked) because the address was allegedly incomplete/wrong. Turns out the PO in my area have changed how they allocate the rounds and caused general confusion all round! 🤪

Still no quote from current insurer......

Just got a quote from admiral who cant find it under the registration but DO list it under manufacturers model name search !!!! Amazing !!!

What was not amazing is the 456 pound quote.... You can go scuttle your ship,  admiral !!!!

I can't remember if it's Admiral or Churchill that is owned by Natwest who i bank with. Every so often i get emails "We can save you £x on your car insurance".

Tried it once and found the information about Churchill/Admiral at the bottom of one of the pages but more importantly, what they quoted was more for ONE car than all three that i had at the time! :o

Confused.com are definitely "confused"

My reg number finds this.... for the Elysion.  As you know I want an NSX and here it is, all along, under the guise of an Elysion !!

  • HONDA NSX:
    [1990 - 2005] Coupe
    3000cc manual petrol

    SELECT
  • HONDA NSX AUTO:
    [1990 - 2005] Coupe
    3000cc automatic petrol

Had this last year if I recall when initially looking for insurance but thought it had been sorted....

Several more companies advertising import car insurance..... Performance Direct.... no record of Elysion...very few other import cars by the looks of it...

Moneysaving expert have an import comparison site... go on and on about import cars and can't even get past the first hurdle with mine... no records......

Adrian Flux...... no record of reg number and only list UK cars with the exception of the Stream, Beat and Today? on their IMPORT quote site !!

Swinton .....despite saying they can do import cars online the only way to get a quote is to go on the standard insurance quote form...... and it finds under my registration number that I now am the proud owner of a Honda NSX manual, 2018 running on petrol............aren't I lucky 🙄

Sky insurance.... for "Modified performance and IMPORT" it says, proudly, on its website......loads of import stuff for Honda including Stepwagon, Stream etc ... NO ELYSION

WTF is going on !!!

What pisses me off most is the fact that all these companies, and more, are WASTING MY TIME .............

I have only a finite number of years left to live, I don't need the hassle !!

Just had a call from this insurer.

Me : Can' find the Elysion on your drop downs...

Them: What's that ?

Me: its like a Stepwagon, Odyssey or Shuttle, ish... that are on your website.

Them; Can't do MPV stuff.......only do high performance imports....

Me: So a 250bhp 3 litre V6 doesn't qualify ?

Them: err, no , how many bhp ? ...oh, its an MPV so NO !! .....

Bloomin heck 😡🤬 reminds me of one of my old insurers saying they couldn't offer me a renewal on one of past accords because I declared a swapped the transmission and it would exceed the market value if I ever claimed, as they have to take into consideration major repairs in the event of a total loss claim. 😑

Just so i understand Stu, when you swapped the transmission, was it a straight like-for-like swap or was it an upgraded/more modern box or change to manul from auto or something?

Like for like, or broken one for a working one lol, some insurers class this as rebuild and have to take this into account if it's rendered a total loss according to the insurer's code of practice...

Don't tell them your name, Pike. !!!!!

Best to say nothing and claim ignorance !!!! Anyway a swapped gearbox is the same as a rebuilt one in the end, would you declare that ?

You've changed a light bulb, that's a major rebuild, we won't cover you after your next renewal. It's an "in service repair", if the cost of the parts had exceeeded the value of the car, you wouldn't have done it.

Like i said above, cretins!👹

Blimey, reminds me of the (only) Audi i've ever owned about 20 years ago, bought it in a hurry as needed a car for £60 with a leaky heater matrix. A £3.99 bottle of Radweld did its stuff on the drive home and i used the car for quite a while. It was parked in the road outside a friends one sunday when there was a thud that shook the house. Girly opposite had reversed out of the drive in daddys Escrot TD, got to the crown of the road and given it the beans as it was struggling. Turbo kicked in and shot her back at a rate of knots hitting the rear wheel square on and shunting it sideways into the kerb. Bent the beam axle like a banana which is probably why the house shook!

A week or so later, the owners insurers (Norwich Union, now Aviva) sent me a cheque for around £1000, i never mentioned the heater matrix first or last but i think i was paid for it!
