Gyula
Hi! I have this idle surge issue with my car, wich just started recently out of blue. When I start the car cold, it has the rev betveen 2000-2500 stable, push the gas once, and it start to have a surge between 1500-2000 revs, and keep that surge hot or cold. Any idea where should I start? If I have to change the idle control valve, is the one for the 2.3l compatible? (that's the only one I found online) No check engine, starts straight. Thaks in advance for any help! 1
Harry93
I have also had this problem on and off, but mine only revs high to 2000rpm when it's cold, but returns to normal idle after a couple of minutes warming up during winter. I'm guessing reasons related to this could be the throttle body sticking, needing a good clean or maybe the idle control valve. The 2.3 engine is basically the same as the 2.0ltr. OEM part number for the idle air control valve is: 36460-PAA-L21
Gyula
Thank you very much! I'm gonna check the idle control valve, as well the vacum tubes, as I saw that can be as well. Thank you very much for the OEM number, it is a bit tricky to find the correct parts, as most of the pages gomes up with the parts for the 4 door, but they are not always the same (had that issue with altenator and ac pump) Do you might happen the OEM number of the timing belt kit with water pump as well? Don't want to get the wong one accidentally. Thank you!
Harry93
You are most welcome. If I can suggest a good source for part referencing try; https://www.parts-honda.uk/honda-cars/ACCORD-COUPE/2001. Water pump: 19200-P0A-003T Timing belt: 14400-PDA-E01 Belt Balancer: 13405-PAA-A03 But if you would prefer to save £££ and buy a kit in one go, I would suggest looking here. https://www.rockauto.com/ Hope this helps you out. I'm sure the others will suggest further info and better sourcing 👍

Sorry to hear this, hopefully, it just needs cleaning or maybe just a new gasket 🤞 it's still awkward to get at it located very close to the bulkhead on the intake and held on with two Phillips head screws/bolts (V6 has three screws). However, you might be able to get away with just squirting in a bit of cleaner or WD40 via the intake into the IAC valve passage on the throttle body, just before the butterfly valve? Additionally the UK 1998-2002 model does share the same valve Denso REF: 136800-1141 and I have one spare and there are a couple on eBay atm: https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/540526777

Don't want to get the wong one accidentally. All the F-series engines use the same timing belt and components so a kit intended for the UK model will fit, just avoid Gates, and Blueprint Kits including their water pumps. I would use an SKF Kit or Genuine parts via https://www.amayama.com/ see the links below. https://www.amayama.com/en/catalogs/honda/accord/6-sedan-left-cg-ch-2001-r-50/engine-and-fuel-system-5/camshaft-timing-belt-1323?filter[years]=2000&filter[engine]=F20B https://www.amayama.com/en/catalogs/honda/accord/6-sedan-left-cg-ch-2001-r-50/engine-and-fuel-system-5/water-pump-sensor-2470?filter[engine]=F18B2
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted January 27 Moderators Report Share Posted January 27 Just an extra vote for Stus recommendations on cambelt and kit, i've not had a problem with Gates myself but can definitely recommend Blueprint as being excellent quality. That said, the Gates belts i've used have been on standard engines, SOHC and 2 valves per pot.
Gyula
Thank you very much for all the help! Thanks a lot for the page with the part numbers as well, it will help a lot, as most of the places mix them up with the normal eu accord, and many parts are not compatible ( first hand experience with altenator and ac compressor, just to mention the big ones ) The timing kit is on the way, gonna be SKF with water pump, as it was on sale (autodoc). The Idle surge is not sorted yet, as unfortunately me and my car are in different countries at the moment. Ordered one valve before you posted the one on ebay. We will see if that's the issue. Hopefully it will be sorted soon, as I plan to put some serious miles in the car soon, doing some cross europe trips.
