Moderators PTR200S Posted November 20, 2022 Moderators Report Share Posted November 20, 2022 Proposals on taxing electric vehicles were in the small print of the so called "budget" . Basically the new vehicles will get a tenner starting charge for the first year and then the standard VED charge, currently £165. If it costs over 40k then the first five years gets a real big hit like the ice stuff. The real humdinger is the RETROSPECTIVE tax applied to previously registered vehicles back to 2001 !!!!!, I think the low emissions stuff gets punted up a band as well. What will really hurt though is the application of VED to vans, light vans currently pay about £290 per year......as I understand it all electric vans will move from zero to 290 quid...Great move for the small businesses hit by the ULEZ and the like who have changed to EV and are now going to get feked over by this. Motorcycles don't escape either, EV bikes will get the lowest motorcycle charge, currently 22 quid , stacked on their already extortionate up front price. The biggest concern is the fact that intend to change / charge retrospectively....the precedent will be set for tax exempt vehicles to be charged again AND the " K" band VED to be dropped...pushing the current £360 up to the £615 cost for 2001 to 2006 (???) vehicles. Whatever you drive we will, no doubt, be screwed by the elite creaming what is deemed to be the low hanging fruit, the car owning general public.

Founding Member Cryistic Posted November 20, 2022 Founding Member Report Share Posted November 20, 2022 I think it's perfectly fine to pay £615 a year for tax, we should just standardise at £600 a year so Legend owners get a reduction.
