Founding Member Mazda Man Posted April 18, 2018 Founding Member Report Share Posted April 18, 2018 Evening peeps, after hassle with a another leaking pipe in the bathroom I’m back on Planet Honda. If there was a crying emoji I’d use it here. As you all know, I love Lennie Legend and yesterday, when opening the rear passenger door to grab my rucksack, I looked down and noticed this.... Nooooooo. How did I not spot that when I bought the car? Anyway, the wheel appears to have had a good whack and the rim appears to have been pushed towards the tyre. The tyre is maintaining pressure though. Is it fixable? Is it worth fixing or just buy a new wheel, if I can get one? Beep Beep. 1
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted April 20, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted April 20, 2018 That's nasty Geoff! ? I've heard of places that can fix that but in all honesty, i'd be looking for another wheel. Maybe not a new one, perhaps a scabby but intact wheel you could have refurbished or maybe an undamaged spare from another car. It's a great shame though, i hope you can find a wheel fairly easily. ? Founding Member Brett Posted April 20, 2018 Founding Member Report Share Posted April 20, 2018 Ouch that looks like a wack there. You can get wheels reburbished for £40 but all depends if it’s buckled. You might be better off just getting a steel rim for a spare as there cheap and hopefully will nether need it.
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted April 20, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted April 20, 2018 Do you think Geoff would be able to find a steel spare Brett? I thought most manufacturers had gone over to alloy only these days, certainly on the bigger, more expensive cars? In fact, a lot of cars don't come with a spare of any description these days, just a can of Tyreweld or similar. I'm not sure as it's tricky to tell from the photo but i'd say that was buckled, not just kerb rash.
Founding Member Brett Posted April 20, 2018 Founding Member Report Share Posted April 20, 2018 Very true Dave it’s only the small town cars these days with steels.
Founding Member Brett Posted April 20, 2018 Founding Member Report Share Posted April 20, 2018 Just had a quick search and you can still get new 17” steels for around £50 new. Im thinking 17”or 18” for lenni. Just need the correct off set as you can go 16” with a fatter tire.
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted April 20, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted April 20, 2018 Just blown up your photos Geoff, in the second one if i'm not mistaken there's damage to the sidewall. It could be the camera angle, shadow or a trick of the light but whatever you do, please get it checked ASAP!!! ?
Founding Member Mazda Man Posted April 21, 2018 Author Founding Member Report Share Posted April 21, 2018 Thanks peeps. Searched everywhere and there are no oem alloys anywhere. You’d think someone would have one in their garage. Anyway, Lennie is popping over to see his uncle Stu later for a diagnosis. Fingers crossed.
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted April 21, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted April 21, 2018 Given how hard it was for you to find the car Geoff, that doesn't surprise me!

Founding Member Mazda Man Posted April 22, 2018 Author Founding Member Report Share Posted April 22, 2018 Sweet. I’m no alloy expert but I’m sure he’s seen worse damage, he’ll be able to fix it with his eyes closed. Hopefully. ?

It was presumably caused by someone driving with their eyes closed Geoff and sadly i don't think the same method will apply to the repair! At least i hope not!
Moderators PTR200S Posted June 9, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted June 9, 2018 any news on the wheel? Did you manage to sort or source another wheel, Geoff ?

The other option is to pop to an alloy wheel specialist and see if the wheel if fixable. If not, then I’ll have to go down the road of a new complete set of after market wheels.

Founding Member Mazda Man Posted June 9, 2018 Author Founding Member Report Share Posted June 9, 2018 I think fixing it is the best way. There are quite a few in Birmingham, think I’ll spend a hour or two popping round to a few recommended ones. I’ve got a week off at the end of June so I’ll have a look then. ?
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted June 9, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted June 9, 2018 Good luck with getting it fixed Geoff - i hope you can! If not and you can stand the wait and cost of shipping from Oz that might be an option too.
Founding Member Mazda Man Posted June 28, 2018 Author Founding Member Report Share Posted June 28, 2018 ☹️ Still no joy with the wheel. I contacted a guy on Facebook called Niko who said he had one. Asked him cost etc and he went all quiet? Think I will cry now. ?
Moderators Laird_Scooby Posted June 28, 2018 Moderators Report Share Posted June 28, 2018 He probably planned on swiping one of yours and selling it back but thought he might be caught out as you'd recognise the dent! Joking aside, he might even have been planning on lifting one but can't find one locally so probably best off without it. Always that one in Australia i linked to above.............

They are Civic/ Accord Wheels the 8th Gen Accord have the basically the same size wheels and offset as the Legend, just a bigger mounting flange so some Mazda wheels might fit better?
Founding Member Brett Posted June 30, 2018 Founding Member Report Share Posted June 30, 2018 Be carful with civic wheels as they are made for a lighter car. The Accord and legend are a lot heavier than the civic so this might put extra pressure on the wheels. I would go for Accord wheels rather than civic as the Accord is around the same weight.
Founding Member Mazda Man Posted June 30, 2018 Author Founding Member Report Share Posted June 30, 2018 I’ve messaged the guy in Australia above, thanks Dave. Seems weird going literally to the other side of the world for a wheel but hey ho, needs must.
