KB1 Engine Coolant Temp. Gauge

Today, halfway to work and stuck in traffic I notice the water temp gauge hadn't moved off of stone cold!

A moment of panic thinking the engine was about to spew its super heated contents all over when I realised that would have happened 10 minutes ago at least. Still, was an anxious rest of the journey.

I know I should have pulled over and checked but it was lashing it down.

Question is, where is the temp probe/sender located?

Weirdly, the outside temp readout has been showing high negative numbers from switch on recently. -12, -17 a couple if days ago. The figure starts to ceeep up, past zero then appears to show the correct ambient temperature.

Could the 2 symptoms be connected or just coincidence?

If memory serves me right it should be in the same location as the Accord V6 being a J-series engine and all and should be located near the throttle body in the outer thermostat housing, a black plug.👈

Are you sure the thermostat is not stuck open - ie does the heater get warm quickly?

Paul, unfortunately I think it must be. I noticed the gauge hadn't moved only when I realised the cabin wasn't as warm as it should have been by that time.

Stu, I'm about due a cambelt change which i suspect entails new tensioner and water pump?

How long do you think parts will take to obtain?

Had prices back from Listers Honda Northampton. Got talking to the parts guy who new the car well because he worked at Honda Kettering before they closed it. Previous owner took it there all the time and would only let one mechanic to work on it.

Mechanic also transferred to Northampton.

BELT £55.18 (Unitta)

TENSIONER £156.21

WATER PUMP £153.55 (Yamada)

All plus VAT of course.

I don't suppose the prices are extortionate, expense yes, but genuine Honda???

Oh, and £57 plus VAT for a thermostat

Well. Logged on to Amayama yesterday. BIG difference in prices as one would expect. Also had a cheeky look at a few "cosmetic" items to replace missing or broken components.

Not knowing exactly what parts are required for a cambelt change the only part NOT ex stock Japan was......the Cambelt! That was showing from the EAU store and not a great saving after carriage. Everything else though
