Stu crusty
Hi All, Just introducing myself, i recently bought a 2001 CG4 2.0i coupe as an ongoing project to do up for my sister, as she's a big Honda fan and these are a little bit different to the standard saloons, and starting to get rare here (and so are some parts, so it seems...) Its a bit of a shed, no bodywork corrosion, lots of little scratches but the engine sounds sweet. I always wished that the Prelude would have the rear end of the coupe - looks so much better... Just done the brakes and replaced the front tyres, and am hopefully getting the windscreen replaced in the next week (used screen from breakers, seems they are hard to come by, and expensive - am paying 200 notes - ouch!) Unless anyone knows of one going cheaper anywhere? The biggest issue to sort, and probably the most common currently is that it has had the Catalytic converter stolen (what a surprise) and in the process they cut the front and mid pipes to remove it, so my first challenge is to locate a front pipe and Cat (i have a flange with fitting on that "should" just slide onto the mid section. it seems on europarts its not available any more, andcats2u gave me a price of 290 for a compatible Cat- sod that! Online automotive show a Cat & front pipe for £221 - still a little steep as its an "approved"Cat. So does anyone have a source or ideas as to where i can source exhausts? and not at Honda prices! i either have to replace the front, cat and mid section, or the front and Cat and use this flange (which has a hole for the post lambda on) to connect to the mid section. So if i can find a compatible honda Cat with no lambda hole, i might be on to something. Thats obviously taking into account that everything comes undone easily (which it wont of course!) so i might have to include a manifold..... I'm based in Northants Cheers Stu 1
Moderators PTR200S Posted June 18, 2021 Moderators Report Share Posted June 18, 2021 Welcome to H6nda !!! Seems like you are getting stuck in straight away ! Definitely chucked in at the deep end with a missing cat too !!! Have a look here, not sure if the MIJ Performance guys can help , as recommended by our leader, but they can obviously do it for the V6 so 2 litre surely as well, not sure how near they are to you but might be worth a call ??
Administrators hughezee Posted June 19, 2021 Administrators Report Share Posted June 19, 2021 Welcome, Stu and a great name BTW 😉 worth having a look in the exhaust section, there are a few 2.0 topics and a possible solution to the downpipe too. https://honda6.ipbhost.com/forum/75-exhaust-cat/
Site Subscriber’s RevvinKevin Posted June 19, 2021 Site Subscriber’s Report Share Posted June 19, 2021 Welcome Stu. You are in my neck of the woods. I have owned a KB1 Legend since last December and am lovin' it. Can't over emphasize what a great help and resource the Honda6 site is. Good bunch of Guys too and looking forward to my first actual "meet". Delayed by Covid, obviously. 2
Stu crusty
thanks all, i thought i read somewhere that the 2.3 downpipe works, so was glad to see this confirmed, and have ordered a downpipe & cat for £111 delivered, (from Cats2u) fingers crossed it all fits without too many issues, though i do expect some bolts to be troublesome... I'm making sure i start soaking them in penetrating fluid now... The Cat i ordered is the non approved version of the same cat they told me was £280, 50 quid is a much more acceptable price 🙂 I will be attempting to get this back on the road with an extremely limited budget, but some jobs i think will HAVE to be done - such as the cambelt as i have no history with the car, but i'll probably try to get through the MOT first before spending any more on it.... Thanks again!
