Got plates made today, first time car has turned a wheel for three weeks or so. Nice to be back!
-
Quick update. New battery was fitted but due to machinations of dvla, car still not on its original plates nor is it taxed so it's been unused. Radiator is next on list then I will get courier organised for stu"s kindly offered exhaust. Have had no time and was getting a bit down with my lack of progress but hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel...and it's not a train! Have a great weekend all, Gbn

Nice....hope to have mine reliable and on road by end of month.

An inspiration man, lovely

Mine seems to get low thirties on longer runs at around sixty mph, low twenties town. This will improve once exhaust fitted I'd imagine. Didn't buy it for mpg anyhow so can't grumble.

Temperature Gauge 1998 1999 2000 2001 CG Accord Coupe
gbn replied to gbn's topic in Heating & Cooling. Incl A.C
Thanks guys, all I needed to know. Just getting to know car! -
This is where my temp gauge sits. I'm used to cars sitting bang on halfway. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or maybe need a thermostat? Would like to get it running as spot on as I can cos if it's running cool it will surely be running rich and using more fuel? SMELLS like it runs a bit rich but that may be my new car paranoia!

New Wheels & Rims Chat 1998 1999 2000 2001 CG Accord Coupe

What wheels will fit my accord? Fancy an upgrade when budget allows, maybe 17s or 18s. Don't really want to go lower but might be convinced yet! -
Got your pm, will call you this week. Thanks again

I dunno what color is called but it has an almost platinum shine to it in some lights. I have the original spec sheet somewhere, will did it out.

Number not staying with car unfortunately. Just waiting on new v5 so I can have plates made

Welcome mate, enjoy your car!
-
I have covered about 400 miles in it since last Saturday! As for 90mph I am strictly a 55-60mph with cruise on long distance driver, doubt kickdown will get much use at all...probably good for box longevity if nothing else!

Had car at garage today and mechanic removed one of my back boxes, car looks strangely lop sided but is no noisier than when I bought it. Car needs battery and radiator which I plan on ordering tomorrow so at least I will have peace of mind! Hughezee gave me link for radiator and we are trying to get exhaust courier sorted out so big thanks all round! The exhaust seems hugely complex with boxes everywhere and cat. I think I would be tempted by a decat stainless system with straight pipe in the middle once I have a feel for the cars potential longevity. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and advice offered. Once I get my car running right I will put some pics up. It's aggressive elegance makes me smile everytime and the malevolent rumble from my dodgy exhaust turns heads haha. This car needs to cover 500 mile weeks so I hope it works out! Gbn

sounds good but caveat emptor. i bought mine for similar reasons. honda plus two owners from new, last owner retired gentleman who owned it for 13 years, full history and in lovely condition, but inactivity can kill cars. be prepared for potential expense on consumable items like exhaust etc...although im sure this would not be such a problem as for the v6! all that siad, im a sucker for low miles, well maintained cars...or, well maintained cars in general. owned a citroen xm 2.5 td estate that had one owner and 330k miles!...also a volvo amazon wagon with over 300k. if your car has been cherished you are starting from a good point rather than throwing money into a pit. enjoy.

I would not contemplate spending more than I bought a car for on repairs, particularly within a few days and a few hundred miles of purchase...but that's exactly what I'm about to do. Why? Because the Honda is special. If I total up what I might spend over next few months I think it will still come to less than 2K including purchase of car, and frankly, I couldn't buy another car for 2K that ticks all my boxes. The lazy effortless power, the indignant yowl when you put your foot down, the driving position, the looks and the rarity would cost thousands more if my car had a different badge. Badge...snobbery...keeps these gems a cheap secret. I have always felt Honda to be modern equivalent of old Lancias. Exquisitely engineered, understated and driver focussed with jewel like n/a engines. So I guess my accord is Honda's Aurelia b20 coupe...a dream car of mine!

Thanks man, exploring a few options just now, you guys have been so kind!

Hey man I didn't slate accord in comparison to ls400, if anything I think the comparison was flattering! Any car that is reminiscent of an ls400 in any way is a bloody good car! Can't wait to get my v6 fettled and back up and running. Had to borrow daughters diesel beetle convertible today, which before anyone says anything, was my old car!
-
There are a few places round here that make stainless, might be only option. Any idea of price of this? Don't mind spending a bit as car is my work tool!
-
My back boxes are hanging off, car had sat unused for an age and I guess the 450 miles it's covered since Saturday have blown them apart! Nothing to weld to! Will check rest of system Friday as am working away all week. Have to borrow daughters car!

Am in Dundee Scotland guys. Thanks for all the support and advice. Are the exhausts out of stock with car being rare?

Exhaust collapsed today. It's like lace. What are my options, likely cost?
