As is usual with most cars the cabin filter (pollen filter) never usually get changed unless there is a fault on the aircon or the dealer is feeling really short of something to do !

It's usually left to the enthusiast to get down and dirty ?

This Elysion is no exception as you will see and not a tricky job.

The cabin filter is hidden behind the glovebox, like most Hondas these days, and is accessible by removing the front of the glove box, the drop down bit.

Underneath here, on the hinge part, are two screw bolts holding it on, this is the bit when you need to "get down" and have a look.  Move the passenger seat back as far as possible and have a look on the underside of the flap..

This is what you are looking for.

There are two of these, one each side, to give you orientation the blue to the left is the door shut and the white piece, bottom, middle left is the a pillar kick plate.

Now get an 8mm socket, short extension / rachet and undo these bolts, as you take the last one out hold the flap and look on the left for a holding bar.

This is the bar you are looking for, it has a u shaped end on it that latches into the flap at the left hand side near the door, so push down carefully and it should pop off the flap which you can then take away and put to one side. Again orientation is the door shut to the left.

Behind you will see a plastic rectangular box, there are two clips on, one on each end, squeeze these inwards and wriggle the front face with the attached cabin filter out of the box. Once out this is the box you can see,  you can check for debris in here and vacuum it out.

This is what you then have, hopefully cleaner than this one ! ?

Now you get to the dirty bit, unless you have managed to secure a filter from somewhere, or until you can find one, then clean it up by vacuuming out each individual flap. Then blow it out with a compressor if you have one.. at least it will help for a while.

This is an original Honda one and is greyish in colour, its not dirt ! well actually the filter is probably filled with minute particles and in this case a couple of Japanese, erm, not sure what they were but the good news was they were dead .

Here is the filter cleaned up and ready to go in the time honoured manner " installation is a reversal of dismantling procedure" !!

Looks like a really tricky job Pete ? but seriously might be worth comparing your 7th gen filter as its probably is the same fitment?

That's what I thought on both counts !!!

The first one is if its so easy why is the filter like that ? Over to you Mr Honda dealers across the country ? ok not really fair here as it came from Japan but then that means worldwide they are doing it ?

Quite right Stu, looked at it and thought the same, the air filter is not same but just wondering now if the Legend has the same ??? Same engine, ish...

I did mine Pete yesterday at Honda HQ and was a very tricky job indeed.

It took all of 2 min to replace   ?

and again, Brett, so easy to do why do the dealers not get on with it???

Perhaps they want the aircon to break and get a bigger bite of the Cherry........

"my aircon doesn't seem to work very well" ......

" ah well, it will be expensive missus, its probably going to need a condenser, the pipes are blocked, new pipes will sort it............ and you haven't serviced it have you? "?

My RA6 Qdyssey air filter is not the same as the Shuttle RA1-3, considering the engine layout is the same, but the RA6 shares the same air filter with a Toyota model, so you could be right about the Legend, but it could be the very same filter in the RA5 or RA9 V6 Odysseys?

The flow of air in the Elysion air con didn't seem very good

so as it's been a while since the pollen (cabin)  filter was looked at, then replaced later, .....oops, seems to be about four years 🤫🤫🤫

a quick look was definitely in order.

Oh dear

Brushing , blowing it out have not really helped, it's clogged,,,,need a new one

Ordered a aftermarket version from Japcar parts, the last replacement was a genuine Honda one in May '18 at a cost of £22.76 from Cox Motor Parts....now their price is just over 30 quid as is Balmerlawncare including shipping.
This aftermarket one is just over £15 delivered,,,,,will see what the quality is like and report back.
