TomG
Hi all, just picked up a 2001 Accord Coupe V6 as comfy transport for a few months while waiting for my other car to be repaired. My first 6 cylinder car and my first auto box! Previously owned: 1994 Honda Civic 1.3 hatch 1998 Toyota Celica SS-III import A couple which we won't mention... 1998 Honda Integra Type R A boring diesel which I won't mention... Currently have: 2002 Skoda Octavia VRS (awaiting repair after careless van driver wrote it off) 2003 Renault Clio 172 (weekend/fun/track car) And the Accord So far I've replaced the wipers (Bosch 24/19" with spoilers) and got some mist washer jets but not sure if they'll fit. Jobs to do: A bloody good clean inside and out Get her on a ramp to have a good look underneath Possibly a service - which engine oil should I use and what is the capacity? Is something like Shell Helix 10W-40 semi synth OK or should I go for a 5W-30/5W-40 fully synth oil?
Administrators hughezee Posted October 17, 2014 Administrators Report Share Posted October 17, 2014 Welcome Tom great to have onboard and don't forget to post up your Accord V6 pic's not forgetting your beloved VRS in the Car Gallery In regards to servicing, "Engine Oil Capacity 4.4" Shell Helix 10w40 (a) should do the job, but avoid fully synths unless is its up to spec' won't go into to finer detail as there's info around the site, but these engines weren't designed for thin oils
TomG
Cheers. Seems quite a low capacity for the size of the engine, should cost peanuts to service with that oil and worth doing twice a year for the cost of it. Last service was a year/~1500 miles ago so not sure if it's worth doing yet, oil still looks quite golden. Will try and get some pics up one day but I've still got loads of others to sort out as well. Car will be up for sale once my VRS is repaired as the Accord will cost too much to fuel and insure in the long run. It was quite a rare find - 86k, 2 owners and full Honda service history. I see the forum has recently switched over to here - how busy was it before? I looked on howmanyleft.co.uk and there are less Accord V6 coupes on the road than Ferrari 458s! Administrators hughezee Posted October 17, 2014 Administrators Report Share Posted October 17, 2014 Shame you will be selling the V6 at some point not doubt a member here will likely be interested in it Also the original forum was a test bed really and once things picked up, things got slow with the hosting and it became a liability, so we moved to secure the future of the club
