  1. I took my black W plate Legend to RV Jones last week. Full service and MOT. I sourced the correct Nippon Denso spark plugs referred to in the owner's manual. The NGKs that came out were very clean so I've kept them possibly for use in one of my other cars. The old girl needed new drop links on the rear. The battery was also starting to sound a little laboured so I've put a new 069 battery on which has greatly improved starting efficiency. Ron commented that when he took the car for MOT it reminded him of just how great Legends are. I've been running all my cars on Tesco Momentum 99 RON fuel, it seems to make a real difference in respect of performance. My purple 1998 Legend is presenting me with a few headaches. I recently had some work done on my lady's Fiesta by a very good mobile mechanic. His prices were fair, he clearly marked up the coil springs which he supplied but I believe that that's standard industry practice. I asked him whether he would fit the replacement starter motor to my Legend. "Yes I'm sure I can." he replied. He then advised me that I should get the s/h starter reconditioned which I agreed to. He then spent two hours scratching his head under my car before declaring that he couldn't do it "on his back" and it would have to go into a workshop. This was what I had been told but in fairness he had told me how innovative he could be and how he would adapt and improvise. Not with Legend starter motors he can't. He then tried to charge two hours labour for failing. I explained that he had said that he could do it, that was the basis of our agreement and that if he couldn't then I wasn't prepared to pay. I'm sure he made a few quid on the starter motor recon anyway, I paid through the nose for it. So it's back to my original plan, I know a man who can. I know that the work required on this old girl will outweigh its value however I cannot scrap it. I need to sort out the starter, ABS pump light on, intermittent cutting out, but I'll do it. My logic is that the black one that cost me £1400 is like driving round in a £30k car. If the purple one costs me £2k to get sorted then so be it. The rear arches are also lightly corroded, need to formulate a cunning plan for those. Watch this space. The green one is still my daily driver, I put 18,000 miles on the old girl last year. She continues to provide sterling service. She'll need an oil and filter change soon but is running faultlessly.
  2. I recently had new upper suspension arms on my eucalyptus green KA9 Legend. I had rear discs and pads, an oil change, gearbox oil change and I had the front discs and pads replaced under warranty. I have done nearly 17,000 miles in the old girl during the last 11 months so I need to keep her running well. I have just bought a used starter motor for my purple Legend from ebay. I have an intermittent fault with the starter, sometimes it turns over, other times it doesn't. Starter motors don't seem to be available new so I've had to go for a used part. And now for the exciting news - did anyone see the black 2000W reg Legend for sale on ebay over the last two days? owned by an old boy in Stockport, selling because he and his wife have arthritis, 93k with lots of SH. Perfect rear arches as far as I can see. I couldn't resist it. I need a bigger driveway.
  3. I haven't lowered it Stuart and I can't find any reference to suspension work in the SH invoices. Thanks for the compliments gents. I am very pleased with the car. The traders who sold it had bought it in for the gearbox then had a change of plan. It was covered in old leaves and all sorts of muck. They wanted £850 for it, I told them £500 and just kept walking away. They eventually accepted it.
  4. Yes, it's in fine order. The first three services were done by Aylesbury Honda. It was then sold by Dorchester Motor Company when it was about four years old. They serviced it about half a dozen times. It was then serviced by local garages. This included cambelt changes at 70k and 110k. It now has 134k displayed. It had a very thorough service at 132k albeit that was three years ago. The oil (GTX) is as clean as a whistle. The one downside with the car is the awful performance exhaust fitted to the rear. It has "cherrybomb" back boxes which are ridiculously loud. I have found a breaker over in Bury St Edmonds who has several 3.0 coupes for breaking. I have bought a hand made stainless back section removed from one of the cars and very well made. Looks like it has been TIG welded. I've also bought a good s/h Honda back section. I've also bought four OEM alloys and a boot complete with boot spoiler. The colour is signet silver, the one photo makes it look a touch purple which it isn't. An exciting car for £500. I have fitted a set of part worn Continental WinterContact tyres which improve roadholding.
  5. My purple KA9 Legend has some areas of rear wheelarch corrosion. The previous owner has a bodyshop fill them from the rear with fibreglass filler then fill and paint. It is now back through. Has anyone found a rear arch repair panel that will fit these vehicles? I believe that there are no panels available.
  6. Thanks Dave and Stuart, hopefully the above link is working. If not feel free to point me in the right direction.
  7. Hello Welland99, I bought my first Legend about three years ago, it had not long been serviced. When it was due for service I did a bit of internet research and found Ron. The business is just two guys in a small unit, Ron and his trainee Liam. I am very impressed with their service. Ron started up when Two Mills Honda folded, apparently local Honda owners who Ron knew expressed concern about where they could take their cars. Ron saw a gap in the market and filled it. My recently acquired coupe was only service 2,000 miles ago. I shall take it to Ron next year and get him to do a comprehensive service. What do people on here do for exhaust parts which I believe are obsolete?
  8. Stu, the Accord is RP31-M, signet silver metallic.
  9. Gents, no worries, I'll ask my son to show me how to post them properly, I'm afraid that IT really isn't my thing. I have just got back from collecting my green Legend from my garage of choice. Would you believe I drive 95 miles to RV Jones in Neston, Cheshire. Ron Jones worked at Two Mills Honda for donkeys years and knows this era of Honda like the back of his hand. It's a bit of a jaunt but he's worth travelling to. He did a full service and the timing/balancer belts last year. It's just had another service, trans fluid change, front and rear discs and pads and new upper suspension arms. It's now driving like a new car. He serviced the purple Legend last year too.
  10. Hello folks, my name is Paul McElhinney, 52 year old Honda fan from Halesowen in the West Mids. I've been driving two Mk III Legends for the last three years or so, just bought an Accord 3.0 coupe. I'm very pleased with it, just need to work out how to post photos.
